Assistant Aquatics Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

Requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age

  • At least two (2) years past waterfront/lifeguarding experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage and work with residents, patrons, staff, and Emergency Services

  • Current Lifeguard certifications from ARC

  • LGI and WSI certificates are recommended however, not required

  • CPO certification is recommended however, not required

  • Ability to plan, schedule, supervise staff, and develop programs

  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays

  • Own transportation to/from and during work hours (reimbursement for work- related travel)

 

General Function:

Assist the Aquatics Director and Assistant Superintendent in planning, scheduling, and supervising all waterfront activities. Trains and supervises all waterfront staff. Operate a strict and efficient water safety program in keeping with the requirements and standards of the American Red Cross and the City of Stamford. Assist in evaluating the program and staff.

 

Principal Activities:

  • Assist in developing water safety protocol

  • Be a role model and supervisor to all staff

  • Conduct senior staff duties

  • Maintain adequate communication with superiors and subordinates

  • Support all camp policies and set a positive tone

  • Ensure health and safety of patrons, residents, and staff

  • Supervise staff, programs, lifeguards, and instructors

  • Work with the Aquatics Director and Asst. Superintendent to carry out the goals and objectives of the waterfront program

  • Develop and operate/schedule a well-planned staff training program

  • Oversee Lifeguard swim tests

  • Accept additional duties as assigned

  • Plan/promote senior staff and regular staff orientation and training.

  • Responsible for maintaining, inventory, and dispensing of equipment.

  • Manages and oversees assigned locations.

 

Work Schedule:

  • May - Assist in setting up waterfront areas, participate in planning/instructing staff training, begin supervising on weekends when beaches are open

  • June – Assist in supervising waterfront activities (weekends) and office work (weekdays)

  • July – Assist in supervising on weekdays/weekends (approx. 40 hours per week)

  • August – Assist in supervising on weekdays/weekends (approx. 40 hours per week)

  • September – Assist in breaking down/closing waterfront/pool areas and prepare for swim lessons

  • October - Oversee the aquatics program/swim lessons

  • December - Assist in interviews of prospective Lifeguard staff

 

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $23.00 to $25.00 /hour

Experience:

  • Lifeguard/Waterfront: 2 years (Required)

  • Supervisor experience recommended
