 Aquatics Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

Requirements:

· At least 21 years of age

· At least two (3) years past waterfront/lifeguarding experience

· Strong interpersonal skills to manage and work with residents, patrons, staff, and Emergency Services

· Current Lifeguard certifications from ARC

· LGI and WSI certificates are recommended however, not required

· CPO certification is desired however, not required

· Ability to plan, schedule, supervise staff, and develop programs

· Must have experience in previous Aquatics Director or Assistant Aquatics Director role

· Own transportation to/from and during work hours (reimbursement for work- related travel)

General Function:

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Aquatics Director to oversee all aspects of our aquatic programs and facilities.

Responsibilities include planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating a wide variety of aquatics programs to ensure they are safe, effective and enjoyable for participants. Management of all aquatic staff, including hiring, training and evaluating. The ideal candidate has a strong background in aquatics management, lifeguard certification and possesses a high degree of leadership and organizational skills.

Reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Recreation

Principal Activities:

· Develop, plan and supervise all aspects of the Aquatics Department

· Set the standards of the department and City of Stamford to all aquatics staff

· Set and enforce safety rules and regulations to prevent accidents and ensure the wellbeing of staff and patrons at all facilities

· Hire, train and manage aquatics staff

· Maintain accurate records of facility usage, incident report and maintenance logs

· Ensure compliance with local, state and ARC regulations regarding training and facility operations

· Implement emergency action plans and procedures

· Work with the Recreation Supervisor and Asst. Superintendent to carry out the goals and objectives of the waterfront program

· Develop and operate/schedule a well-planned staff training program

· Organize and implement Lifeguard swim tests and certifications

· Work with Recreation Department Camp staff to ensure effective and safe swim sessions for campers

· Plan/promote senior staff and regular staff orientation and training.

· Responsible for maintaining, inventory, and dispensing of equipment.

· Responsible for inventory and ordering of aquatics supplies

· Provide excellent customer service, handle complaints professionally and responsible for all patron communication

· Plan, organize and staff all aquatic department beach events, such as 4th of July fireworks.

Work Schedule:

· January to March: Oversee the aquatic program/swim lessons (approx. 10-15 hours per week)

· April– Organize all aquatic supplies to be distributed to aquatic facilities. Ensure all staff are trained and certified. (approx. 10-15 hours per week)

· May – Ensure the full set up of waterfront areas, organize the planning/instructing of staff training. Ensure the successful opening of beach season. (approx. 10-20 hours per week)

· June – Supervise all waterfront activities (weekends) and office work (weekdays) (approx. 40 hours per week)

· July – Supervise on weekdays/weekends (approx. 40 hours per week)

· August – Supervise on weekdays/weekends (approx. 40 hours per week)

· September – Break down/close waterfront/pool areas and plan swim lessons (approx. 10-15 hours per week)

· October - Oversee the aquatics program/swim lessons (approx. 10-15 hours per week)

· December - Conduct interviews of prospective Lifeguard staff (approx. 5-10 hours per week)

Job Type: Full- Time, Part-time, Seasonal

Salary: $26.00 to $29.00 /hour

Experience:

· Lifeguard/Waterfront: 3 years (Required)

· Management experience required
